Salary and hours: £13/hour, 7hrs/week, minimum six month contract with the possibility of an extension.
Two roles at 7 hours per week, or one role at 14 hours per week is available.
Take Back The City is a grassroots political campaign that has been working for the last two years to put marginalised voices in the centre of our politics and challenge our political system by showing what real, direct democracy looks like and just how it could work. We are currently looking for two passionate part-time co-ordinators to support us in the daily organising of the project. We would also consider employing just one person at two days a week (14 hours) if they had the appropriate experience.
The job will include supporting group members to plan and promote events, keeping up with email admin and social media, updating our website when necessary and offering support with political research where appropriate.
The successful applicant(s) be supported/line-managed through a peer-management structure. Support will include a once-monthly one-to-one with your peer manager, as well as phone calls as and when they are needed.
Applicants will work to increase the efficiency and efficacy of the broader organising team. The work will largely be remote, so the successful applicant will need to be proactive, self-motivated and able to navigate working in a busy team who are juggling multiple commitments.
About Take Back the City
Take Back the City is currently made up of voluntary Organisers and Members. There are roughly 10 core Organisers and 10 Members (who have lesser responsibility).
Take Back the City Organiser meetings are held twice monthly on a week-day evening. The paid Organisers will not be required to attend all meetings, but will be expected to attend some.
Our priority for 2017 is to help build community power in London. We are doing this through focusing in a couple of geographical areas of London, with one of them being by London City Airport in the Docklands, Newham. We are currently beginning a process of door-knocking an area of about 1000 homes to better understand the issues being faced by people in the area. We are also hosting a series of events and meetings at community centres in the area.
We are also continuing other areas of working that include; organising politically- charged performance events, sitting on the Steering Group of the new Renters Power Project as well as collaborating with other groups and organisations in areas that are being affected by unjust regeneration.
